James E. Larson, CDT, Architect
Jim is our Director of Design and Architecture. He also acts as our Firm’s spokesperson. Before joining Formaation he was with Gensler in their Phoenix offices. He has 22 years experience in architecture, design and construction. Gensler is one of the world’s largest architectural firms.
Jim has extensive experience in commercial, retail, hazardous-occupancy projects and medical/dental. He has managed architectural field offices for Mercer, Motorola, and TRW providing on-site supervision and personal attention to clients undertaking multi-year, highly technical projects.
In the retail sector, he has done work for Bank of America, Southwest Region. In healthcare he has completed work with the Scottsdale Center for Dentistry, Mercer Advisors, Dental and Medical Specialties Building. In hospitality, he has completed projects for Hyatt. In Institutional work, he has worked with Arizona State University, College of Nursing and the University of Arizona, Tucson. In the Technology/Industrial fields, he has completed work for TRW in several of their areas as well as Motorola. Jim also did some special work for the Community Bridges/Center for Hope in Mesa and creative work for the Phoenix Zoo. His expertise also extends into Master Planning.
He received his BA in Fine Arts from Arizona State University, Tempe Arizona in 1983 and he also studied at the Phoenix Institute of Technology. In 1985 he won an AIA Award for Model Construction, Shelor Residence.
Jim has been married to his lovely wife for 25 years and has 7 great children. He and his wife are also a CPS foster family since 1998 (AAFC).
